Stories from the set

In one of the episodes, a never-existing US flag is shown — with 47 stars, with the explanation that it was supposedly adopted when New Mexico had already become a state but Arizona had not yet (that is, between January 6 and February 14, 1912). In reality, however, during the described time period the 1908 flag with 46 stars was in effect, since new ones were added only on July 4, 1912, when the number of states had already reached 48.

Many characters in the series were named after streets in Portland.

In the opening credits of the first episode of season 19, Bart writes the following on the chalkboard: "I will not wait another 20 years to make another movie."

In the episode "Homer's Odyssey," Smithers had dark hair, and in the episode "There's No Disgrace Like Home," he had blue hair like Marge's.

In the second season, in the first Halloween special, one of the three stories of the episode was based on Edgar Allan Poe's poem 'The Raven'.

Bart Simpson briefly appeared on screen in the episode 'Cartoon Wars Part II' of the animated series 'South Park', where, animated in the style of that cartoon, he argued with Eric Cartman about which of them was worse. In addition, in one scene he writes on the wall 'I hate The Griffins', but does it with his right hand, not his left, as in the 'Simpsons' opening.

In the early episodes of the animated series, in the scene where Homer runs away from the station after the whistle, there was an employee standing behind him taking a bite of a sandwich. Later he was replaced by Burns and Smithers.

The signature opening sequence, which the series had for almost 20 years, was nevertheless changed in the 19th season to show the aftermath of the events that occurred during the feature-length film (the destruction of the glass dome, the spider-pig, etc.). And since 2009, when the series began broadcasting in High Definition, a completely new opening was made.

Homer's mother Mona Simpson was named by writer Richard Appel after his wife and Steve Jobs's sister, Mona Simpson.

The two hairs on Homer's head are named Archie and Wickett.
