What it’s about

Expelled from their clan, two minor yao, Pig and Toad, hatch a grand scheme. Hearing that a Tang monk, escorted by mighty yao, is travelling west for sacred scriptures, they decide to impersonate the group. Pig will pose as Zhu Bajie, Toad dresses as the monk, the talkative Weasel takes the role of the silent Sha Seng, and the shy, clumsy Gorilla is persuaded to play the cunning Sun Wukong. The company sets off ahead of their 'prototypes', hoping for honours and a chance to reach the sacred scrolls first and gain immortality.

What hooks you

Directed by Shuiyu Tang, the film took four years to make, with 600 people creating 1,800 shots and over 2,000 scenes. It is a spin-off from a television series.
