About the film

What it’s about

An elderly man serving a life sentence waits alone in his cell. A balsam flower, Housenka, speaks to him like a human. Their conversations draw him back through the life he has led.

What hooks you

Baku Kinoshita directs and co-writes this anime drama. Natsuki Hanae and Kaoru Kobayashi lead the cast, with Junki Tozuka also voicing a role. The simple, strange encounter between a prisoner and a talking flower promises an intimate, reflective character study.

Who it’s for

It is worth a look for anyone who likes slow, contemplative drama where a single confined space becomes the stage for a life's reckoning. It will appeal to those drawn to anime that treats memory and mortality with quiet seriousness.
