Jenny's last name — Curran — appears only once in the film: on the letter that returned to Forrest in Vietnam.

The film is based on the novel by Winston Groom "Forrest Gump" (Forrest Gump, 1986).

The film departed quite far from the original novel by Winston Groom, in which Forrest Gump is portrayed as a sharp, insufferable cynic. And the quote from the film "Life is like a box of chocolates" is completely opposite to the idea from the novel "Being an idiot is not a box of chocolates."

During the filming of one of the scenes, Tom Hanks says: "My name is Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump." In fact, the actor made a slip of the tongue, but director Robert Zemeckis liked it, and he included that very take in the final version of the film.

The director's chair could have gone to Barry Sonnenfeld and Terry Gilliam.

During the filming of the football scenes, Tom Hanks had the flu, but he steadfastly endured the ordeal and worked through those days despite feeling terrible.

Tom Hanks agreed to take part in the filming on one condition: all the events of the film must echo real historical events.

In cameo roles were Alexander Zemeckis (the director's son) and Elizabeth Hanks (the actor's daughter).

Warner Bros. gave up the rights to this film in 1988, believing that realizing this project would be commercially unprofitable after the release of the film Rain Man.

Tom Hanks based Forrest Gump's original accent on Michael Conner Humphreys, who played young Gump and actually spoke with that accent in real life.
