Filming took place in St. Petersburg and the Volgograd region.

Before filming began, the actors lived in barracks and underwent full military training. For several nights in a row, the team learned how to handle weapons and mastered basic skills in order to convey the behavior of soldiers on screen as accurately as possible.

Residents of the Volgograd region took part in the filming.

The film crew accidentally discovered real traces of military fortifications near one of the locations: trenches and Soviet artillery positions.

The episodes set in 1942 were filmed in the Volgograd region, about 150 km from the city. With the help of military consultants and archival materials, the film crew carefully studied the specifics of combat operations in the steppe in winter: how units were positioned, where dugouts were built, and how ravines were used.
