The film's director Steven Soderbergh managed to shoot all scenes featuring Al Pacino in just three weeks.

For the role of Willy Bank, Steven Soderbergh initially had only one actor in mind – Al Pacino. One of Pacino's close friends, Jerry Weintraub, who was also one of the film's producers, managed to convince the actor to take part in this film.

Two members of Ocean's gang, the Malloy brothers, are named Virgil (Casey Affleck) and Turk (Scott Caan). These names were given to the characters by no means by chance – in "The Godfather," Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino, kills a character named Virgil "The Turk" Sollozzo.

The prosthetic nose worn by Matt Damon's character is a reference to the film "The Brothers Grimm" starring the same Damon. The film's director, Terry Gilliam, wanted the actor to wear a prosthetic nose, but studio bosses vetoed this decision.

Rusty's mobile phone ringtone is the song "Don't You Want Me" by "The Human League".

The phrase "You shook hands with Sinatra" is heard several times in the film. Frank Sinatra played the role of Danny Ocean in the original 1960 version of "Ocean's Eleven".

In one episode, when Rusty talks to Danny, they mention that the Sands and the Desert Inn casinos used to be here. Those were the names of two of the five casinos robbed by the eleven friends of Ocean in the original 1960 film.

Wladimir Klitschko, who made a cameo in the first part of the trilogy, was offered a role in the film, but he declined.
