What it’s about

Antoine Balestro, a painter in 1928 Paris, has lost his inspiration and turned to drink after his wife Irène died. He blames himself for her death. Seeking contact with her, he visits Suzanne, a sideshow performer who poses as a clairvoyant. His dealer Armand, anxious to stop Antoine from collapsing, pushes Suzanne to continue the fraud, paying her debts in return for fake hypnosis sessions where she claims to channel Irène.
