About the film
What it’s about
Fyodor, a young novice, accompanies Father Pyotr on a mission to the Polar Urals. Their task is to persuade reindeer herders to accept baptism. The farthest northern camp, known locally as "the edge of the earth," awaits them. The travelers are not welcome there.
What hooks you
Shot on Yamal in 19 shifts, the film draws on director Vladimir Golovnev's childhood memories and Nenets mythology. Nikita Efremov plays Fyodor, and Evgeniya Mandzhieva plays Vatane. The cast also includes Dmitriy Podnozov as Father Pyotr.
Who it’s for
It is a good pick for those who enjoy mystical thrillers set in harsh, remote landscapes, where ancient beliefs clash with missionary zeal and reality proves deceptive.
