  1. The idea for the book came to Chuck Palahniuk after he was beaten up during a hiking trip. When he asked nearby people to turn down the volume of their radio, Chuck received several impressive blows to his face.

  2. Chuck Palahniuk admitted that the ending of the film turned out to be more successful than the ending of his book.

  3. During the filming process, director David Fincher used about one and a half thousand rolls of film — 3 times more than the average amount.

  4. Brad Pitt's character presented his recipe for making explosives at home to the public. Fearing possible attempts to replicate these experiments, the filmmakers decided to use a deliberately false method for making a "homemade bomb".

  5. During filming in a residential neighborhood, one of the residents was so enraged by the noise accompanying the shoot that in a fury he threw a bottle of beer at the source of the disturbance. The bottle hit the head of cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth, but the injury did not cause him any serious inconvenience. The bottle thrower was immediately arrested.

  6. In the scene where Brad Pitt's and Edward Norton's characters get drunk and start hitting golf balls, the actors were actually drunk. Therefore, special devices were used to make the balls land where they were supposed to.

  7. Courtney Love and Winona Ryder once auditioned for the role of Marla Singer.

At the moment when Norton's character tries to convince Helena Bonham Carter's character to leave town on a bus, viewers see a couple of movie theaters advertising the following films — "Seven Years in Tibet" (1997) (featuring Pitt), "The People vs. Larry Flynt" (1996) (featuring Norton), and "The Wings of the Dove" (1997) (featuring Carter).

On the DVD release, after the traditional copyright warning comes a warning from Tyler Durden, though it appears on screen for only a second: "If you are reading this, then this warning is for you. Every word you read is meaningless — you are simply wasting another piece of your life. Don't you have anything better to do? Is your life so empty and gray that you can't even find something to occupy yourself with in your free time? Have you read everything you wanted to read? Have you thought about everything you wanted to think about? Go outside immediately. Find yourself a person of the opposite sex. Stop making stupid purchases and quit masturbating. Quit your job. Start a fight. Prove that you are alive. If you don't start taking action, you will live out your worthless life just like this. I warned you... Tyler."

  10. During the scene in which a fight club member hoses down a priest, the camera shakes at one point. This happened because the cameraman couldn't keep from laughing.
