About the film
What it’s about
Ed Saxberger, a post office worker, published a poetry book in the late 1970s that drew no attention. Years later, an eager fan appears at his door, pulling him into a circle of young admirers who declare him a neglected genius. Their leader, Gloria, captivates him, and Saxberger grows intoxicated by the attention. He must consider whether their admiration is genuine or built on something else.
What hooks you
Willem Dafoe plays Ed Saxberger, with Greta Lee as Gloria. Kent Jones directs from a screenplay by Samy Burch and Arthur Schnitzler, and Don Fleming composed the score.
Who it’s for
It is worth a look for anyone who enjoys character-driven stories about art, authenticity, and the seductions of late recognition, told with a comic edge.
