The Kims live in a cramped semi-basement, stealing Wi-Fi and scraping by on odd jobs. When the son gets a chance to tutor for the wealthy Park family, he forges a university diploma and wins over the lady of the house. He then sees an opportunity to bring his sister into the household, setting off a chain of deceptions that entwines the two families.

  2. The stone that Min-hyuk (Park Seo-joon) brings and gives to the family is called susok. In Korea, there is a long-standing tradition of collecting stones of various sizes and interesting shapes. Usually wealthy people are fond of this hobby.
  3. Ki-jung (Park So-dam) forges university documents for her brother from Yonsei — one of the three most prestigious universities in South Korea. The film's director, Bong Joon-ho, graduated from this university.
  4. Before its domestic premiere, the distribution rights to the film had been sold to 192 countries, setting a record for a South Korean film.
