About the film
A comedy that will roll you in the aisles
What it’s about
Claude runs a barely surviving bookshop while his wife Isabelle cares for their two children. Following a friend's suggestion, he turns the shop into a sex shop, and the business suddenly thrives. The new prosperity emboldens Claude to seek more excitement in his own sex life, and he presses Isabelle to join him in exploring what the shop sells. She tries to keep up, but their attempts at erotic adventure, including encounters with a dentist and his wife, do not go smoothly.
What hooks you
Claude Berri directs and stars as Claude, with Jean-Pierre Marielle playing Lucien. The catalogue's slogan calls it a hilarious send-up of sex shops and pornography, and the music is by Serge Gainsbourg.
Who it’s for
It will appeal to those who enjoy early-1970s European comedies that treat marital boredom and sexual curiosity with a light, satirical touch, and to anyone curious about the era's changing mores.
