What it’s about
Alex Pruitt is nine and stuck at home with chicken pox while his family is away. A mix-up at the airport puts a top-secret microchip, hidden inside a toy car, into his hands. Four professional spies have tracked the chip to his neighborhood and will do anything to get it back. Alex must defend his house against these dangerous intruders.

Alex D. Linz was chosen for the lead from over a hundred boys, beating out Elijah Wood. The film moves the action to after Christmas, unlike the first two installments. Olek Krupa and Rya Kihlstedt play two of the determined spies. The film received a Razzie nomination for Worst Remake/Sequel.

- More than a hundred boys auditioned for the role of Alex Pruitt. Alex Linz won the part, beating out even a star like Elijah Wood. Wood had previously auditioned for the role of Sammy Parker in "One Fine Day" (1996), and that role also went to Linz.
- Unlike the first two parts, as well as the fourth, the action of this part takes place after Christmas.
- In the early stages of development, the film was planned as a TV series pilot.
