- Ben the chimpanzee was played by Miguel Torres Umba. To show him, the filmmakers used a wide range of techniques, including prosthetics, puppets, animatronics, and so on. Director and screenwriter Johannes Roberts stated that in terms of complexity, the process was no easier than filming the horror movie Cujo, a remake of Lewis Teague's 1983 film. It was important for the film's creators to make Ben individual and recognizable, something like Freddy Krueger, the antagonist from the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise.
