About the film

Based on truly possible events.

What it’s about

Two astronomers calculate that a newly discovered comet will strike Earth in six months, ending all life. They struggle to get an audience with the President of the United States, but their warning is met with disbelief. Turning to a popular TV show, they find that most people still don't treat the danger as real.

What hooks you

Adam McKay directs a cast that includes Leonardo DiCaprio as Dr. Randall Mindy and Jennifer Lawrence as Kate Dibiasky. The film received four Academy Award nominations, including Best Original Screenplay, and four BAFTA nominations, including Best Film. Its satirical take on climate change and media indifference is grounded in the premise that such events are truly possible.

Who it’s for

It is worth a look for anyone who enjoys sharp social satire that holds a mirror to our distracted, media-saturated age. Those who appreciate comedy with a bleak edge and a pointed commentary on political and public apathy will find much to engage with.
