In the scene where Jay and Kay communicate with a race of tiny beings living in a storage locker. Kay takes back his electronic watch, which had been a sacred object for the aliens and had stood in the center of the square. So that the latter would not be upset, Jay leaves them his watch. A few seconds into the dialogue, the frame again shows the square with the watch, where Kay's watch is still present.

Famke Janssen was supposed to play Serleena and even filmed several episodes, but a death in the family forced her to leave the project.

Will Smith's sons and Tommy Lee Jones's daughter appeared in cameo roles, along with stars such as Shaquille O'Neal, Tiger Woods, Venus Williams and even Michael Jackson.

The girl at the post office was played by Barry Sonnenfeld's daughter.

Filming began in June 2001 in New York and was completed in October of the same year.

The final scene originally featured the World Trade Center buildings, but after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, their image was replaced with that of the Chrysler Building.

The film is based on a comic book series by Lowell Cunningham, published from 1990 to 1991 by Marvel under its Aircel Comics and Malibu Comics imprints.

The film again featured the pug that had already appeared on screen in the first film of the franchise (Barry Sonnenfeld, 1997), but over seven years he had aged somewhat, and the gray on his muzzle had to be covered with makeup.

Will Smith began work on this film immediately after finishing shooting Michael Mann's sports drama Ali (2001). For the shoot with Mann he had built up muscle mass, so in the first weeks of shooting with Sonnenfeld he could barely fit into the black suit.
