facts
-
Joe Anders wrote the screenplay at the age of 19 while taking special screenwriting courses in the UK. His teachers suggested he write about something personal, and he decided to tell the story of his grandmother, who died of ovarian cancer in 2017 when he was 13. That is how the screenplay for "Goodbye, June" came about.
-
Kate Winslet helped with producing the film and was attached to play Julia, but when it came to choosing a director for the project, she suddenly realized that she wanted to direct the film herself as well.
-
Helen Mirren liked the screenplay so much that she agreed to play June even in violation of her own rules (the actress had long sworn off playing patients with cancer and dementia).
