Journey now into a startling new dimension where energy lives and breathes. A world inside the computer where man has never been. Never before now.
What it’s about
Kevin Flynn, a gifted video game creator, hacks into his former employer's mainframe and is transported into a digital realm. There he becomes part of the very game he designed and must confront the Master Control Program, a dictatorial entity that rules this electronic world. Teaming up with Tron, a security program, Flynn fights to survive and challenge the system's control.
What hooks you
The film stars Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn, with Bruce Boxleitner as Alan Bradley / Tron and David Warner as the villainous Master Control Program. It won a Saturn Award for Best Costumes and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Costume Design. The production used a PDP-10 computer with 1152 kilobytes of memory for its effects, and it was the first feature to show computer-animated faces. John Lasseter has said that without Tron there would be no Toy Story.
Who it’s for
It will appeal to those who like early computer-generated imagery and stories set inside virtual worlds. It will also suit viewers who enjoy battles against oppressive systems and the pioneering days of digital effects.

Trivia
All facts 8
- The creation of «Tron» involved the renowned French artist Jean Giraud (Moebius) and Syd Mead, who became famous for his work on «Blade Runner».
- The computer special effects were made on a PDP-10 (Programmed Data Processor, model 10) machine with a total memory of 1152 kilobytes.
- The programmers who worked on the film Tron later also made video games based on it.
- Terminals of some old computers had a Trace On (TRON) button for line-by-line tracing of program execution (and, accordingly, TROFF). However, the director claims that the program's name "Tron" came from an abbreviation of the word "Electronic."
- In one of the episodes, the game "Pac-Man" can also be noticed on the display of one of the terminals.
- For the first time in the history of cinema, this feature film demonstrated computer animation of a face, although largely simplified.
