Stories from the set

The bees shown in the film are real, not created using computer technology. While filming the scene in which thousands of bees swarm over Amzia's hand, the actor playing that role, Matthew McConaughey, held a queen bee in his hand for almost 40 minutes so that the ordinary bees would fly to her. At that time it was already known that the actor was allergic to bee venom, so the scene was filmed on the very last day of the shooting period.
