Stories from the set

Indoor scenes, for example in the characters' bedrooms, were filmed inside an indoor swimming pool, where specially constructed sets were lowered. Instead of trying to flood the filming location with the sets, the film's production designer, David Ingram, built sets that could be used with a crane to "lift out" the lower levels of the building and, accordingly, lower the sets into the water. This made what was happening on screen look more believable.

During filming in Melbourne, the filmmakers used real sets for some scenes, and sometimes used computer graphics.

The specially constructed pool in the studio parking lot held approximately 2 million liters of water. Scenes set in the central city square were filmed here.
