The lead actress Jessie Buckley was made a platinum blonde, with bleached eyebrows and a tattoo on her left cheek. The transformation of her co-star Christian Bale's appearance involved the use of prosthetics. Before each shooting day, Bale spent 6 hours in the makeup chair, while Buckley's makeup took only 1.5 hours.
