In 1985, at the age of 14, he made his debut in Elem Klimov's film "Come and See". After graduating from vocational school, he served for three years in the Navy in Vladivostok, and returned home as a chief petty officer. After the army, he built roofs on new Moscow buildings. Only at the age of 21, yielding to Elem Klimov's persuasion, did he apply to a theater school. In 1995 he graduated from the B.V. Shchukin Theater School, A.A. Kazanskaya's course.

From 1994 to 2001 he was an actor at the Vakhtangov Theater. In 2007 he was accepted into the troupe of the Moscow Art Theater. Honored Artist of Russia (2007). People's Artist of Russia (2020). While studying at the Shchukin School, he appeared in one of the clips of Denis Evstigneev's "Russian Project". Founder and leader of the band "Guarana". Music performed by "Guarana" was heard in the series "Russian Special Forces".
