Biography

Chen Kun (Chinese: 陳坤; pinyin: Chén Kūn), born February 4, 1976 in Chongqing, Sichuan Province, is a Chinese actor and singer. He is also known by another name, Aloys.

He showed a talent for singing early on, and his vocal teacher and mentor strongly recommended that he join the famous China Oriental Song and Dance Ensemble (now the China National Song and Dance Ensemble) in Beijing in 1995. In 1996 he was admitted to the Beijing Film Academy, where he emerged as a promising young actor.

Starring in the film "A Moment by West Lake," Chen Kun received a nomination for Best Actor at Taiwan's Golden Horse Awards in 2005. His work in the film "The Knot" earned him the Huabiao Award (China's top national film award) for Best Actor in 2007. His recent portrayal of Chiang Kai-shek in the 2009 blockbuster "The Founding of a Republic" received high critical praise and brought him enormous popularity among audiences.
