Biography

Christopher Edward Hansen is an American television host, journalist, and YouTube personality. While working as a correspondent for Dateline NBC, he hosted the segment of the program To Catch a Predator (2004–2007) dedicated to catching potential internet predators through sting operations. After the three-year run of the segment ended, Hansen continued to host programs on other channels in a similar format.

After leaving NBC in 2013, he began hosting Killer Instinct on Investigation Discovery in 2015 — a short-lived series documenting murder investigations. That same year he replaced Matt Doran as host of the syndicated series Crime Watch Daily, which he hosted for two seasons and which had its own segment similar to his Dateline feature — Hansen vs. Predator. In 2020 he co-founded the true-crime-focused streaming service TruBlu, for which he produced and appeared in the web series Takedown with Chris Hansen.

Hansen has received several awards, including ten Emmy Awards, five Edward R. Murrow Awards, three Clarion Awards, a National Press Club award, as well as honors for excellence from the Associated Press and United Press International. Hansen and the numerous subjects of his investigations have gained cult online popularity, and Hansen himself is regarded as a pioneer of sting-operation content.
