Corey Stoll

American actor. His breakthrough came with a role in the Netflix series House of Cards, which earned him a Golden Globe nomination in 2014. Stoll also appeared in the short-lived Law & Order: Los Angeles (NBC, 2010-11), and in 2014 he began playing a leading role in the FX series The Strain.

Stoll was born into a Jewish family in New York. His father, Stephen Stoll, is the founder of Beacon High School in Hell's Kitchen. He grew up on the Upper West Side. In 1998 he graduated from Oberlin College, and in 2003 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University. The following year he received a Drama Desk Award nomination for a supporting role in the play Intimate Apparel with Viola Davis. Since then he began appearing on television and in film, playing guest roles in the series NYPD Blue, ER, Law & Order, NCIS, and The Good Wife.

Stoll's first major role was in the NBC series Law & Order: Los Angeles, which was canceled after one season in 2011. Later that same year he took on the role of Ernest Hemingway in Woody Allen's film Midnight in Paris, which earned him an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Supporting Male. His career breakthrough came with a role in the Netflix series House of Cards in 2013. For it, in 2014 he was nominated for the Golden Globe and Critics' Choice Television Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Stoll then got a leading role in the FX series The Strain, which is based on the novel series of the same name. Stoll, who in real life has no hair, had to wear a wig to match the role. Also in 2014, Stoll got the role of the villain in the next Marvel Studios film, Ant-Man.
