His father, Johnny Patrick O'Connell, was Irish from Ballyheigue, County Kerry, and worked on the British railways; he died of pancreatic cancer in 2009. His mother Alison (née Gutteridge) is English and worked for British Midland airline before becoming her son's manager. Jack's younger sister, Megan, is an aspiring actress.
