James Hong is a Chinese-American actor and former president of the Association of Asian Pacific American Artists (AAPAA). The career of the prolific veteran actor Hong spans more than 50 years and includes more than 350 roles in film, television, and video games.

He received his primary education in Hong Kong, then returned to the United States again when he was ten years old. Hong began studying civil engineering at the University of Southern California, but later became interested in acting. After graduating from university, he worked for 7.5 years as a road construction engineer in Los Angeles, filming during his vacations. Hong decided to quit engineering in order to devote himself fully to an acting career.
