Biography

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Karl Markovics (born 29 August 1963) is an Austrian actor.

He played Salomon Sorowitsch in Stefan Ruzowitzky's The Counterfeiters (2007), which was awarded the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film that year. Before that, his most notable appearances were in the highly acclaimed Austrian (Viennese) black comedy Come, Sweet Death (2001), as the far-right terrorist Franz Fuchs in the 2007 television film Franz Fuchs – A Patriot, and in the police drama television series Inspector Rex. His character from Inspector Rex had his own spin-off series, Stockinger.

Markovics remains a frequent stage actor, and in April 2010 he performed the non-singing role of Samiel in the first opera production by the director of The Counterfeiters, Ruzowitzky — Der Freischütz at the Vienna Theater an der Wien.
