Biography

Mikhail Efremov was born into a theatrical family: his father was O. N. Efremov, his mother was Sovremennik actress A. B. Pokrovskaya, and his grandfather was opera director B. A. Pokrovsky. Honored Artist of the Russian Federation (1995). He first stepped on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater as a boy, in the productions "Ukhodya, oglyanis!" (1976) and "Duck Hunt" (1979). In 1987, with an interruption for military service, he graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School (V. Bogomolov's course). From 1987 to 1991 he was artistic director of the Sovremennik-2 Theater-Studio.

From 1991 to 1999 he worked at the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. He made his film debut as a thirteen-year-old teenager in the film "Days of Surgeon Mishkin," and the film "When I Become a Giant" made him one of the most popular young actors in the country. Starting in 2000, Mikhail Efremov has acted very extensively in films, with notable roles in both films and series. Increasingly, directors make use of the actor's remarkable comedic talent.

On September 8, the Presnensky Court of Moscow sentenced Mikhail Yefremov to eight years in a general regime penal colony – the actor was found guilty of causing a traffic accident on the Garden Ring that resulted in a person's death.
