Miranda Jane Richardson (born 3 March 1958) is an English actress known for her versatile work in film, television, and theatre. She made her film debut as Ruth Ellis in Dance with a Stranger (1985) and subsequently received Academy Award nominations for her roles in Damage (1992) and Tom & Viv (1994). A decorated performer, Richardson received seven BAFTA Award nominations, winning in the Best Supporting Actress category for Damage, as well as seven Golden Globe Award nominations, winning for the film Enchanted April (1992) and the television film The Fatherland (1994).

Her extensive career includes notable television work in the series Blackadder, The Lost Prince, and Rubicon, as well as a prolific stage career that earned her a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for the play A Lie of the Mind (1987). In 1996, after her performance in the play Orlando at the Edinburgh Festival, one critic called her "the greatest actress of our time in any medium."
