Born in San Pedro, Los Angeles County, California, to an attorney father and a homemaker mother. Of Irish descent on his father's side and Croatian descent on his mother's side. He attended Loyola High School (Los Angeles) and graduated from the University of Southern California in 1991. He made his film debut in 1993. He is best known for the lead role of Lieutenant Zander Barcalow in the film Starship Troopers (1997) and for the role of Richard Hart in the television series Melrose Place.
