Pedro Almodóvar Caballero (born September 25, 1949) is a Spanish film director, screenwriter, and producer.

Almodóvar is arguably the most successful and internationally known Spanish director of his generation. His films, characterized by complex plots, use melodramatic motifs and elements of pop culture, popular songs, irreverent humor, bright colors, glossy decor, and LGBT themes. Desire, passion, family, and identity are among Almodóvar's most common themes. His films are popular worldwide, and he has become an important figure on the global cinema scene.

He founded the Spanish film company El Deseo S.A. together with his younger brother Agustín Almodóvar, who has produced almost all of Pedro's films. In 2001, he was elected a foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
