Mariya Poroshina studied at a school with intensive French language instruction and took dance classes with the "Beryozka" ensemble. After graduating from school, she entered the Moscow Art Theatre School, but received her acting education at the Shchukin Higher Theatre School. She hosted the television program "Shire Krug" and performed in various productions of contemporary and classical repertoire, including at the "Na Pokrovke" Theatre under Sergei Artsibashev.

From her first marriage, she has a daughter, Polina Kutsenko (born 1996). Her second husband is actor Ilya Drevnov; they have three daughters: Serafima (born 27.09.2005), Agrafena (born 18.02.2010), and Glafira (born 3.02.2016).
