Biography

Actor, director, screenwriter, TV presenter, art historian. Born into the family of writer, screenwriter and director Sergei Bodrov Sr. In 1993 he graduated from the History Department of Moscow State University (Art History division). In 1998 he defended his candidate dissertation on the topic "Architecture in Venetian Renaissance Painting". From 1996 to 1999 he was the host of the program "Vzglyad" (ORT). In 2001 he took part as a host in the program "The Last Hero" on Channel One. He began working in cinema at his father's suggestion, appearing in his films first in an episodic role in "SIR / Freedom Is Paradise" (1989), and then in a leading role ("Prisoner of the Mountains" (1996)).

He gained particular popularity with viewers by playing the role of Danila Bagrov in Alexei Balabanov's films "Brother" (1997) and "Brother 2" (2000). In 2001 he made his directorial debut with the film "Sisters". In the summer of 2002 Bodrov began working on his new film, the mystical drama "The Courier". On the evening of September 20, 2002, he went missing in the Karmadon Gorge in North Ossetia, where the film crew found itself in the path of the descending Kolka glacier.

According to the official version, a block of ice broke off a cliff on Mount Dzhimara. It fell onto the Kolka Glacier, and the glacier moved down the gorge, carrying stones with it. This flow covered the Karmadon Gorge, where S. Bodrov and his crew were located; large-scale rescue and search operations yielded no results.
