Biography

Phillip Jack Brooks, better known by the ring name CM Punk, is an American professional wrestler, sports commentator, actor, and former mixed martial artist, currently performing in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), best known for his influential career in WWE, marked by a landmark rivalry with John Cena.

Brooks began his professional wrestling career in 1999 on the independent scene, primarily in Ring of Honor (ROH), where he won the ROH World Championship once. In 2005 he signed with WWE and subsequently became a multiple-time world champion, also holding the Intercontinental Championship, the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, and the World Tag Team Championship, becoming the 19th WWE Triple Crown holder and the fastest to achieve that distinction. He was the only back-to-back Money in the Bank winner, headlined several WWE pay-per-view events, received the Superstar of the Year award at the 2011 Slammy Awards, and was named Wrestler of the Year in 2011 and 2012 by the readers of Pro Wrestling Illustrated. Disillusioned with WWE, he left the company in a controversial manner and retired from professional wrestling in 2014.

After leaving WWE, Brooks pursued mixed martial arts and signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Competing in the welterweight division, he debuted at UFC 203 in 2016, losing to Mickey Gall by submission, and later faced Mike Jackson at UFC 225 in 2018 in a bout that was subsequently ruled a no contest, after which he was released.

After his MMA appearances, Brooks moved into sports commentary and media appearances, including working as an analyst on WWE Backstage from 2019 to 2020.
