Biography

Preity Zinta (born 31 January 1975) is an Indian actress and producer working mainly in Hindi-language cinema, as well as appearing in Telugu, Punjabi and English-language films. She made her film debut in Dil Se.. (1998), followed by Soldier (1998), and for both roles received the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. She then appeared in Sangharsh (1999) and gained wider recognition for the drama Kya Kehna (2000), which brought her a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.

In the early 2000s Zinta appeared in Mission Kashmir (2000), Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2001), Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and Dil Hai Tumhaara (2002). For her role in the drama Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) she received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. During this period her filmography also included Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003), Koi... Mil Gaya (2003), the war drama Lakshya (2004) and the romantic film Veer-Zaara (2004).

Among her later releases were Salaam Namaste (2005), Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006), Jaan-E-Mann (2006) and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom (2007). Besides Hindi-language cinema, she appeared in the Telugu films Premante Idera (1998) and Raja Kumarudu (1999), and her international debut came in the Canadian film Heaven on Earth (2008), for which she received the Silver Hugo Award for Best Actress at the Chicago International Film Festival. She later produced and appeared in Ishkq in Paris (2013), appeared in Bhaiaji Superhit (2018) and starred in the historical drama Lahore 1947 (2026).
