Raj B. Shetty was born in Mangaluru, Karnataka, India. He attended Bharathi English Medium School in Mangaluru and earned a master's degree from Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work in Mangaluru. He worked as a radio jockey at 92.7 Big FM for several years.
