Samuel Alexander Joseph West is a British actor and theatre director.

Son of British actors Timothy West (b. 1934) and Prunella Scales (b. 1932), grandson of actor Lockwood West (1905–1989). His older brother is Joseph and his half-sister is Juliet (his father's daughter from his first marriage).

He was educated at Alleyn's School (Dulwich, London). He continued his studies at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree (in English literature).

For many years he remained an active member of the Socialist Workers Party and sharply criticized the policies of Tony Blair's "New Labour" government.
