Biography
Sergio Leone (January 3, 1929 – April 30, 1989) was an Italian film director, producer and screenwriter most associated with the "Spaghetti Western" genre. Leone's film-making style includes juxtaposing extreme close-up shots with lengthy long shots. His movies include The Colossus of Rhodes, the Dollars Trilogy (A Fistful of Dollars; For a Few Dollars More; and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly), Once Upon a Time in the West; Duck, You Sucker!; and Once Upon a Time in America.

Sergio Leone was going to make a film dedicated to the siege of Leningrad. The plot of the film was to be based on the story of an American cameraman who arrives in Leningrad just before the start of the siege, falls in love with a Russian girl, and remains in the besieged city. The film was to be released under the title "900 Days of Leningrad." However, due to the director's death, these plans were never destined to come true.

His father, Vincenzo Leone, was a director (he made films under the pseudonym Roberto Roberti), and his mother, Bice Valerian, was an actress.
