Biography
Ted Maher (born June 9, 1958) is an American former nurse who became the center of international media attention following a high-profile criminal case in Monaco. While working as a private nurse in the penthouse of billionaire banker Edmond Safra in Monaco, Maher was convicted in 2002 of arson causing the 1999 fire that killed Safra and another caregiver, after initially giving contradictory testimony about the circumstances. He was sentenced to ten years in prison and released in October 2007, having served eight years behind bars.
After his release, Maher's life continued to be overshadowed by legal problems. Under the name John Green, he faced numerous charges in the United States, including a failed plot to hire a hitman for his then-wife Kim Lark. In March 2025, he was convicted of first-degree solicitation of murder in connection with that plot and received the maximum sentence provided for that charge.
