About the series

Forensic sleuthing in the age of invention.

What it’s about

Detective William Murdoch works in Toronto at the end of the 19th century, where strange murders demand new methods. He turns to forensic science, still in its infancy, to find answers. Dr. Julia Ogden, the coroner, joins him: young, well-bred, and unafraid to perform autopsies and run expert tests despite the limits her skirts and society impose.

What hooks you

Yannick Bisson plays Murdoch, with Helene Joy as Dr. Ogden. The series draws on novels by Maureen Jennings, and its slogan promises “No Secrets. Only Answers.”

Who it’s for

It is worth a look for anyone who likes historical crime drama where science meets police work, and for those who enjoy a capable woman pushing against the expectations of her time.
