Stories from the set

The titles of all episodes of the first season consist of one word, the titles of episodes of the second season consist of two, and the third of three. The same trend can be traced in seasons 4 through 8.

The series takes place in the same universe as other series produced by Dick Wolf – Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Justice. This means that at times characters from Chicago Med become characters in other Wolf projects, and the twists and turns of this series' storyline affect the plots of other projects and vice versa. One of the main characters of Chicago Med is Dr. Will Halstead, who was first introduced to viewers as the brother of Jay Halstead from Chicago P.D.

Laurie Holden appeared on screen in one of the episodes in April 2015 as Dr. Hannah Tramble. She was supposed to become one of the main characters of the project, but in August of that same year it was announced that she would not be acting in the series. They decided not to cast another actress for this role, and instead introduced other female characters into the storyline.

Before the series aired, Dr. Natalie Manning was named Lily, as can be seen from the patch on her lab coat in footage shot at the very beginning of work on the project, but before filming the pilot episode the name was changed to Natalie. This character was played by Torrey DeVitto.
