Rue Bennett, 17, returns home after rehab with no intention of staying clean. She immediately resumes using drugs and partying. At a party, she notices Jules Vaughn, a new arrival in the suburb, and their meeting sparks a close friendship.
What hooks you
Zendaya won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for playing Rue, and Hunter Schafer plays Jules. The series also won Emmys for a guest actor and for Zendaya's lead performance, plus MTV awards for show of the year and best fight. Creator Sam Levinson drew on his own teenage addiction for Rue's storyline, and based Jules and Kat on the actors' own biographies.
