In 1999, Eun Chae-ni is a 27-year-old oddball in her town, suffering from an incurable illness and convinced she won't live to see the predicted end of the world. She persuades two friends to stage her kidnapping to get ransom money from her wealthy grandmother. During the scheme, she dies, and her accomplices try to dump her body at a waste site, but she suddenly comes back to life. A local civil servant notices the strange event and clearly has secrets. Meanwhile, a religious sect gains influence by promising salvation from the apocalypse of the year 2000.
