In 1941, the Byelorussian SSR is under German occupation. Soviet partisans find secret uranium mines where a Russian scientist, who fled after the revolution, conducts experiments on nuclear fission. He is obsessed with completing his research, believing it could alter the war and world history. Alexei Lavrentyev, a former repeat offender nicknamed Lyokha-Lavr, narrowly escapes death and joins the partisan unit of NKVD captain Viktoria Degtyarenko. Initially met with distrust, his resourcefulness and courage earn him respect. He gradually learns that the mysterious German scientist is his father, Alexander Lavrentyev, whom he believed dead.

Directed by Dmitry Korobkin and Sergey Girgel, the series features Vladimir Verevochkin as Alexei and Vladimir Yumatov as Alexander. The cast also includes Kristina Aleksandrova as Viktoria.
