About the series

In 1929, eighteen-year-old Nastya Pakhomova returns to her native village of Berezhki after finishing courses in the city. On her first day back she meets Matvey Lykov, a childhood acquaintance she has not seen for two years. They fall for each other quickly and begin meeting, but her father, the wealthiest man in the village, objects: Matvey comes from a poor family and is no match for his daughter. The couple decide to defy their parents, leave the village, and marry. Before they can, Matvey's father dies, and Matvey blames Nastya's father for the death.
