One of the last roles of Diana Rigg, who passed away on 10 September 2020. From the beginning of the second season, Mrs. Pumphrey was played by Patricia Hodge instead of Rigg.

Changes to legislation regulating the use of animals on television were introduced in 2019, and subjecting them to any medical procedures they do not actually require was prohibited. During the filming of scenes in which veterinarians examine cows and sheep before giving birth, the crew had to use prosthetic animal body parts.
