About the film
Training is over. The adventure begins.
What it’s about
Five years after Vikings and dragons made peace on Berk, Hiccup and Toothless explore uncharted skies while their friends compete in dragon races. Their adventures lead them to a secret ice cave sheltering hundreds of wild dragons. The ruthless conqueror Drago Bludvist is gathering forces to enslave dragons and people, and Hiccup must find a way to protect Berk from war.
What hooks you
Dean DeBlois directs this sequel, inspired by the darker middle chapter of classic sagas. The voice cast includes Jay Baruchel as Hiccup, Cate Blanchett as Valka, and Gerard Butler as Stoick. The film won a Golden Globe and a Georges Award for Best Animated Feature, and its animation uses new software for more expressive faces and realistic movement.
Who it’s for
It will appeal to those who enjoy coming-of-age adventures where a young hero faces a larger world and heavier responsibilities. It will also suit viewers who like animated fantasy with emotional stakes, family bonds, and spectacular dragon flights.

- The film's trailer used the music "Beyond the Clouds", written by the music production company Audiomachine.
- Unlike the first film, the distributor for this one became 20th Century Fox, since in 2012 DreamWorks Animation ended its partnership with Paramount Pictures.
