During the filming of the scene at the train station, when water from the tank pours onto Sherlock, the powerful stream of water that fell on him caused Keaton to suffer a neck injury, and for many years he suffered from migraines without knowing their true cause. The correct diagnosis was only made in the 1930s.

Buster Keaton (1895-1966) trained for four months with a specialist so that he could perform all the tricks the viewer sees Sherlock Jr. perform during the pool game. And even after this lengthy training, the filming took five days. When he finished, all the filmed tricks and feints were spliced together so that it appeared all of it happened during a single game.

The street with Victorian-era houses, along which the characters of Buster Keaton (1895-1966) and Virginia Fox ride bicycles at the beginning of the film, was built as the street where Judy Garland's (1922-1969) character lived with her family in Vincente Minnelli's (1903-1986) musical "Meet Me in St. Louis" (1944).
