Sanek, a twenty-five-year-old film director, is travelling to the premiere of his film. In the reserved seat carriage he meets Gena, a forty-year-old man going to visit his dying grandmother in a remote area. Gena tricks Sanek into leaving the train with him, and they spend a day and a half together hundreds of kilometres from Moscow. Gena shows Sanek the world he comes from: his family history, his loves, his friendships. The experience binds them, and the chance meeting changes Sanek's outlook and shapes the subject of his next film.
